In 2018, we started the construction of the separation plant household waste at AVR, location Rozenburg. This installation processes household waste from the cities of Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. The total capacity of two lines is 430,000 tons per year.
The first line was started up in December 2018 and the second line started operating in the spring of 2019. With this installation, plastics and beverage cartons can be recovered from the residual waste. In the first year, a separation yield of 51% was already achieved, with a purity of 90%. A result we are proud of!

Contribution to CO2-reduction
Since the installation came into use, AVR separates the residual waste from the municipalities of Rotterdam, Barendrecht, The Hague, Leiden and Utrecht. From 2020, the municipalities of Den Bosch, Leiderdorp, Oegstgeest, Goeree-Overflakkee and four municipalities in Zeeland have were added to the list. The recovered plastics and beverage cartons are sorted and / or offered directly to recyclers. In the first year, 19.2 million kilos of plasitics and bevarage cartons were separated from the residual waste, which is equivalent to a CO2 reduction of approximately 24,000 tons per year (source: AVR).
